Homemade Laundry Detergent

I started making out own laundry detergent a few years ago.  It seems like with little ones laundry is a never-ending job and we were going through it like water!  I did some research and came across a few different recipes to make my own.  It is actually very simple and works great!  I have never actually figured out how many loads we get with one batch of homemade detergent, but I do know I am saving money!  I will use either Fels-Naptha bar of soap or Dr. Bonners…it depends on which one is cheaper at the time.

Homemade Laundry Detergent

Washing Soda (Arm & Hammer Brand is available at most stores)

Borox (20 Mule Team Borox is available at most grocery stores)

Bar Soap (Dr. Bonner’s, Fels-Naptha, or Ivory)

I like to add a few Tablespoons of Baking Soda to freshen up the laundry as well.  I also add a few drops of essential oils too.  My favorite brand is Doterra, you can order here.

  1. Grate your bar of soap.  I use a grater, but you can also use a food processor until finely ground.
  2. In a large bowl, mix 2 parts Washing Soda, 2 parts Borox, and 1 part grated soap.  (Now is when I add the Baking Soda and about 10 drops of essential oils.)
  3. Store in an airtight container.  I store mine in a glass jar.
  4. Use 1/8 to 1/4 cup per load of laundry.

Homemade Organic Lip Balm

I never experienced dry, chapped lips like I have since moving to Colorado.  I have lived in other places that are dry, but nothing compares to here.  I tried several different kinds of lip balm. Some of them helped, but not without the hefty price of $3.50 per tube!

I have been trying to make natural products for our family.  So I figured why not try to make some lip balm?  I made a batch last winter and I have to say it is definitely my favorite lip balm EVER!  I will never buy it again.  It makes my lips so soft!  I even use it on my eczema!

Homemade Organic Lip Balm

2 Tbsp Organic Coconut Oil (I buy my Coconut Oil at Costco)

2 Tbsp Organic Cocoa Butter, or Shea Butter (I use this Cocoa Butter.)

2 Tbsp Beeswax (I use this beeswax)

3-5 drops of essential oils, (I use my favorite Essential Oils.  You can order from here.)

Lip balm tubes, 12 (get your here)

You will use a double boiler to melt the coconut oil, cocoa butter and beeswax together.  If you don’t have a double boiler, like me, I just heat up some water in a pot and place a glass bowl on top to melt my ingredients.  Once they have melted I add in my essential oils.

I tie my tubes together using a hair tie so they will stand up while I am filling them.  I use a small dropper to fill them.  I found that these work great.  I can just toss them when I am finished since it is so hard to get all the product out of them.

One batch makes about 12 tubes and lasts us almost a year.  Yesterday I made a double batch.  I put some in a small glass jar since it works great on my eczema too!

Deep Hair Conditioner & Lip Scrub

Deep Hair Conditioner

3 Tbsp coconut oil
1 Tbsp olive oil
8 drops essential oil of choice

Mix together and comb through hair. Wait 15-20 minutes. Wash and style as usual.

Good oils: lavender, peppermint, rosemary, geranium, clary sage or any combo

Does leave hair a little greasy looking after first wash but could maybe wash twice and avoid that. Does leave very soft and helps growth.

Lip Scrub

4 tsp brown sugar
3 tsp coconut oil
3 tsp honey
2 drops peppermint
2 drops wild orange

Mix all together

Super Silky Summer Legs

Someone was looking for a great wedding gift for a friend and it was suggested to make her a gift with doTerra oils. Here is the recipe! I can’t wait to try it myself.

1 1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup oil (I use coconut oil)
3 Tbsp lemon juice (or 20 drops Lemon oil)
Good razor

Mix all together and store in glass container

Apply mix to legs and gently rub in…shave…rinse…repeat.

This stuff works amazingly! It is key to do the second shave as it gets rid of dead skin cells that you didn’t know existed.

Keeping Sickness Away

We love using our diffuser!

We love using our diffuser! I have to admit I use it almost daily. I really should invest in a few more. I am using the greenair diffuser I purchased for Puritans Pride. The kids love that it has a feature to have lights on the change while diffusing. I love the part that it is helping to improve their immune system. Today I am using OnGuard since they have not been feeling 100%. OnGuard has many benefits! My favorite is that it is an all natural immune defense against viruses and bacteria! I also love to slice up apples soak in water with a few drops on Onguard for a yummy treat, plus they won’t turn brown. If you are interested in learning more about doterra please contact me. To order some Onguard check out my site.
